TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF

My name is Raymond Isibor and I am a visual artist.

HOW DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR CRAFT?

I discovered my art while doodling away during boring lectures and in my free time and fell in love with the self expression it allows.

DO YOU HAVE A MENTOR, IF SO WHO?

I like works by Laolu Osunbanjo, Chief Nike Ogundaye, Tola wewe, Victor Ehikamenor.

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORKS?

My works are inspired by my environment and the African culture.

IN YOUR OWN WORDS DESCRIBE YOUR KINDA CONTENTS?

My art is a contemporary mix of lines, colour, illustrations and patterns in a doodle like abstraction.

PERSONALLY WHICH ASPECT IS DEMANDING; STARTING OR FINISHING A PROJECT?

I think Starting is more demanding.

HOW DO YOU FEEL YOUR SOCIETY AFFECTS YOUR INDUSTRY?

Lol that’s a complicated question, but you just got to know how to survive.

DO YOU FEEL THERE’S A GOOD SUPPORT ATMOSPHERE IN THE ART INDUSTRY?

The art scene is still growing and I feel the support is not enough to cater for the huge number of upcoming creatives in the country and more needs to be done to support and grow the Nigerian art scene.

WHAT’S THE MOST REWARDING PART OF BEING AN ARTIST?

For me it’s seeing my thoughts, emotions and ideas in a physical form.

ONE THING YOU HOPE TO IMPROVE ON IN YOUR INDUSTRY?

More protection and support for creatives.
