TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF

I’m Tega, founder of Khan educational foundation. We build and run schools in slum communities there by giving children from those communities an opportunity to have formal education.

WHAT DROVE YOU INTO WHAT YOU DO?

I got tired of pointing accusing fingers at the government for the way Nigeria is. I realized that each & every one of us has a part to play in nation building hence I decided that rather than play the blame game, I could be responsible for something good in my country.

DO YOU HAVE A MENTOR?

Yes, I identify people who are trail blazers in areas I would like to lead in and I begin to pattern my life after them.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Hope. I am a possibility thinker that spends most of my mental time in the realm of what could be rather than what it is. A hope of a better future for Nigeria and the world at large gives me inspiration

THE MOST CHALLENGING THING SO FAR?

We face multiple challenges everyday but we determine to knock them all out one at a time.

PERSONALLY WHICH ASPECT IS DEMANDING; STARTING OR FINISHING A PROJECT?

Starting a project is most demanding for me. Once I can overcome the static forces I usually am able to navigate through to project completion

HOW DO YOU FEEL YOUR SOCIETY AFFECTS YOUR WORK?

The communities we work in obviously have an impact on our work, but we try not to allow it limit us. We carry around a “could be mentality” (possibility mentality) rather than one that reflects its current realities.

IS THERE’S A GOOD SUPPORT ATMOSPHERE BETWEEN GOVERNMENT & BRANDS LIKE YOURS?

The government is doing the best they can, but I feel that the burden on the government is too much. Private individuals should get involved in nation building.

THE MOST REWARDING PART OF WHAT YOU DO?

Knowing that the work we do will outlive us is very rewarding. Best legacy you can give a future is to educate children today.

ONE THING YOU HOPE TO IMPROVE ON IN YOUR SOCIETY?

We hope to build more schools in many more communities where children don’t have such privilege & access.
