TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF

I’m a DJ/producer out of port harcourt. I make original music & remixes. I can’t swim & haven’t seen any of the lion king movies.

HOW DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR CRAFT?

I’ve been into music from about 10. I began playing instruments at a church. Started djing around 2016/2017. But production started around 2010. I remember my first laptop didn’t even have a battery. It’s what’s known as a laptop desktop.

DO YOU HAVE A MENTOR?

There are a couple people I admire like Davido, kevin hart, trevor noah, don jazzy, spellz.

FAVORITE TRACKS CURRENTLY?

Asides from EDM, my 2nd favourite genre is rnb so I listen to a lot of Kehlani, Queen naija, Bryson tiller, Col3trane, HER, Summer walker, that type stuff. But my go-to atm for when i’m doing dishes or laundry or taking a walk is angelina by kabza de small, dj maphorisa & tresor.

MENTION YOUR FAVORITE EVENTS?

My own events i guess. because that’s a space i created myself

HOW DO YOU FEEL YOUR SOCIETY AFFECTS YOUR INDUSTRY?

PHC isn’t exactly a hub for EDM, same applies to Nigeria. I feel like any genre that isn’t the primary genre of any society has a handicap.

DO YOU FEEL THERE’S A GOOD SUPPORT ATMOSPHERE BETWEEN DJS?

I don’t know that many DJs personally so my opinion is uninformed. But, the day @dj_tunez entered my DMs changed my situation radically.

MOST REWARDING PART OF BEING A DJ?

Seeing people enjoying what you’re playing comes to mind. The smiles and general goofing around. Seeing people who can’t really dance try to dance because they’re just having too good of a time. That’s priceless.

MOST ANNOYING THING YOU COME ACROSS IN YOUR FIELD?

When I see a DJ scratching or whatever it’s called. I can’t stand it. It’s especially annoying when they’re awful at it.

ONE THING YOU HOPE TO IMPROVE ON IN YOUR INDUSTRY?

The way djs are perceived. The idea of the artist dj is still a bit foreign here in nigeria. Especially for those of us that produce our own music from scratch all by ourselves. And also to stop DJs from doing that scratching stuff
