TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
I’m an artist and a pharmacist. I have an alternate reality where I’m a contemporary artist. I create art in wet media, mixed media and performance art. I also love football (sport & video game).
HOW DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR CRAFT?
In college, I saw a pencil work that blew my mind. Dr Fola David’s work ‘Adefemi Gbadamosi’ a visual and hyperrealism artist. I met with him and he tutored me which was the beginning of my pro art career.
DO YOU HAVE A MENTOR?
Yes, Fola David was a great teacher and grounding force. David Garibaldi also inspires my work process & ambitions. He’s a world-renowned artist & leading performance painter.
WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORKS?
I try focus on both the artwork and the process of making it, with the aim of maximizing both. Focusing on the process is how I come up with my performance videos. They are a result of well thought out concepts, and I often have a team on ground to execute them.
DESCRIBE YOUR CONTENTS.
Some of my works are rooted in deep self-reflection. These works often convey a message, and may also be inspired by external factors.
WHICH IS DEMANDING; STARTING OR FINISHING A PROJECT?
Starting; once I can start, the job is half done.
HOW DOES YOUR SOCIETY AFFECT YOUR INDUSTRY?
Art in Nigeria isn’t doing badly though we have a long way to go. People are getting more aware of the Nigerian art space. I think that genuine interest in art is a great foundation.
DO YOU FEEL THERE’S A GOOD SUPPORT ATMOSPHERE IN THE ART INDUSTRY?
I live in Nigeria where figuring out how to provide basic amenities seems like rocket science. It’s important for artists to find their niche, relate with other artists, immerse yourself in a small world where you’ll feel supported, a place where you belong.
MOST REWARDING PART OF BEING AN ARTIST?
Expression! To be able to turn a blank canvas into something that can literally change the world.
ONE THING YOU HOPE TO IMPROVE ON IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
I hope to inspire; to show younger artists that it’s possible to pave one’s own way to success & it doesn’t have to be the traditional way.
