TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
I’m popularly known as Zona Strings, a visual artist who makes art with
just about anything I lay hands on. I play the guitar too.
HOW DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR CRAFT?
I discovered my passion for art the moment I started copying my elder brother’s drawings in my primary school years.
DO YOU HAVE A MENTOR?
I don’t
WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORKS?
My inspiration comes from God, and the urge to do the unthinkable, to break away from conventional art styles and be original.
DESCRIBE YOUR CONTENTS?
I’m all about creating arts the way nobody has thought of. So, my contents revolves around the concept of creating artistic pieces with just about anything I lay my hands on. From food, drinks, vegetables, rubber bands, snacks, and so many other things. Most importantly, I don’t just create these pieces to wow my viewers, I also try to convey messages via the arts.
PERSONALLY WHICH ASPECT IS DEMANDING; STARTING OR FINISHING A PROJECT?
I believe starting is more demanding, because where there’s a will, there will always be a way. Meaning that, if I’m willing enough to start a project, be rest assured finishing same is water under bridge.
HOW DO YOU FEEL YOUR SOCIETY AFFECTS YOUR INDUSTRY?
Art is yet to take its rightful place in the hearts of people in our society; art is not valued in my country and this is really not enough motivation for the artist. I know some great artists who gave up their craft
for this reason. The situation is really not encouraging especially for aspiring artists.
DO YOU FEEL THERE’S A GOOD SUPPORT ATMOSPHERE IN THE ART INDUSTRY?
The support atmosphere is really poor, hence many now decide to reduce art to a side hustle, while they depend on other things.
WHAT’S THE MOST REWARDING PART OF BEING AN ARTIST?
The process of making a piece is most rewarding for me, even more than the piece itself.
ONE THING YOU HOPE TO IMPROVE ON IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
I hope to make my fellow artists all over the country, see reasons to take social media marketing seriously. Let them see that talent isn’t enough
