TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
My name’s Bada Aramide, a Live Sound Engineer and co- founder of @audiogirlafrica, a platform geared towards creating opportunities and support for women in Audio-media tech industry through trainings and mentorship.

HOW DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR CRAFT?
I just loved to listen to sounds and could tell what was wrong with tracks and how it could be fixed. Also got to a training and noticed that they were all girls. I was mind blown because there aren’t many female sound engineers in the world.
DO YOU HAVE A MENTOR, IF SO WHO?
Not really, but I have loads of people who inspire me.

DO YOU SPECIALIZE OR DIVERSIFY IN YOUR FIELD?
As a female in Live sound and an engineer, I’m a specialist. I co own a brand that is committed to making sure we have enough female engineers in the world.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TOOLS, PLATFORMS OR PERSONALITIES?
The minute I held an XLR cable, I fell in love and just literally connected to it (pun heavily intended lol), Logic, Canva and M32

HOW DO YOU FEEL YOUR SOCIETY AFFECTS YOUR INDUSTRY?
I think a lot of people don’t get what Audio Tech is yet. Even my family, thought I was an electrician with the amount of setups I do. But I’m glad it’s slowly improving
DO YOU FEEL THERE’S A GOOD SUPPORT ATMOSPHERE BETWEEN SOUND ENGINEERS?
Well… Yeah, the support’s quite healthy. Up-and-coming sound techs should be worked on and not be competing all the time.
WHAT’S THE MOST CLICHE THING YOU COME ACROSS IN YOUR FIELD?
YOU ARE A FEMALE ENGINEER?! (in the most shocking voice you can manage) Also, the fact that everyone wants to check up on your work because you’re a girl.

WHAT’S THE MOST REWARDING PART OF BEING AN ENGINEER?
The fact that I’m a female sound tech, inspires a lot of people. At our last training, we had up to 300 girls sign up for a field that is male-dominated and it blows my mind.
ONE THING YOU HOPE TO IMPROVE ON IN YOUR INDUSTRY
Please stop underrating us, it HURTS! It would be nice to sensitized the society on that. Also Audio tech being infused in school curriculums.
