TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
I’m really not a fan of art or crafts, but I’m willing to do anything good to make money 😂😂. I saw people made money from making rugs and I gained the interest.
HOW DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR CRAFT
I started playing video games since my early childhood and I was good at it. More like a Game nerd. On getting to the US I discovered I could make it a career. So I did.
WHAT INSPIRES YOUR DESIGNS
I like to be among the best in what I do, even if my passion for rug making isn’t so great yet. I’m mainly doing it for the money and I still love to come out with very good design because it means money for me.
WHAT ARE YOUR CHALLENGES AS A CREATIVE
Being that tufting is a new craft in Nigeria only few artists are into it. I find it difficult getting all the materials and supplies I need. I mostly purchase almost all my supplies from outside the country and it makes my products extremely expensive and difficult to sell sometimes.
A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE AS A CREATIVE
I sold my first two rugs after two months of practicing on social media. It was so sudden I never thought I’d make a sale so fast. I thought I might have to post the rugs on social media for about six months before someone will be willing to buy.
WHAT’S THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF RUG MAKING
Trimming the rugs to make them come out neat.
HOW DO YOU FEEL YOUR SOCIETY AFFECTS YOUR INDUSTRY
I honestly can’t say for now.
IS THERE AN INDUSTRY SUPPORT FOR CREATIVES LIKE YOU
I’m not so sure there’s support.
WHAT’S THE MOST REWARDING PART OF WHAT YOU DO
I put smiles on my lovely customers faces when I deliver their product to them making them happy, and still making money for myself.
WHAT WOULD YOU DESCRIBE AS THE FUTURE FOR YOUR CRAFT
I see myself growing my audience and customer base, creating more pieces and training people to do what I do.
